A sound financial literacy education and wise financial practices
within the Native American community are both timely and necessary.
Being an informed consumer will help Native American families
overcome financial dependence and limitations and replace it with
financial self-sufficiency and opportunities.
The Native American Development Corporation, in partnership with
AmeriCorp, offers basic financial literacy classes to low to moderate-
income people and other vulnerable groups. Educational information
will include:
Understanding Credit And Your Credit Report
Working With Checking And Accounts
Understanding The Loan Process
Developing Spending Plans
In addition, participants will be introduced to an array of financial
practices, terms and situations that will be beneficial, harmful and
fascinating. This interactive classroom learning approach will
disseminate information regarding: debt to income ratio, seven
spending traits, want v. need spending, calculating interest rates,
identity theft, predatory lending and bankruptcy. Each class features
a guest speaker who will provide in depth information on subjects
related to financial literacy.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to take the course.
